Parvez A. Shahid | Chairman

Mr. Parvez Shahid is a prominent international banker and businessman who has worked for and led various global financial institutions for a period of almost 40 years. Prior to moving to Pakistan in the early 1990s, Mr. Shahid served as Global Treasurer of the Bank of Credit and Commercial International (BCCI), based in Abu Dhabi and London. In 1997, on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Group, Mr. Shahid led the acquisition of Habib Credit & Exchange Bank Limited in a publicly-televised privatization process (the entity was later renamed “Bank Alfalah Limited”). As Co-Chairman of the Central Management Committee of Bank Alfalah for a period of 13 years, Mr. Shahid was the central figure behind Bank Alfalah’s unprecedented growth story, leading it from a ranking of No. 36 (smallest bank in Pakistan) to a regional bank (5th largest bank in Pakistan) with a network of 500+ branches and a presence in 5 countries: Pakistan, Afghanistan, UAE, Bangladesh, and Bahrain, with total assets of US$5.5 Billion. Mr. Shahid also served as a Board Member of Warid Telecom International (a regional mobile operator with operations in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Georgia, Congo, Ivory Coast, and Uganda), and Wateen Telecom (where he presided over the largest deployment of WiMAX technology in the world in Pakistan during 2007 in addition to a nationwide 13,000km+ underground optic fibre network rollout). He also served as Chairman and Shareholder of Wincom, a highly profitable telecommunications infrastructure management venture co-founded by him in 2007, and whose 2012 assets exceeded US$20 Million. At Bank Alfalah, Mr. Shahid succeeded in creating a regional franchise with a virtually global presence as the bank had the highest brand recall of any Pakistani bank due to its trailblazing sponsorship of sporting events. Leading a dedicated and best-in-industry team, Mr. Shahid built Bank Alfalah into a US$475 Million+ business from a one-time equity investment of US$40 Million, thereby delivering a total return of 12.0x to shareholders over a 13-year time horizon. In addition to his role as Chairman of the most exciting new FMCG business in Pakistan: Infinity Ventures, Mr. Shahid also serves as Co-Chairman of Central Microfinance Organization LLC in Georgia, and as Chairman of Equity Global (Pvt.) Limited, Alliant Energy (Pvt.) Limited, and Alliant Business Solutions (Pvt.) Limited in Pakistan.
